Too Good To Be True Aquarium Heater

I was thrilled when I saw this super affordable programmable heater from a popular aquarium brand. Turns out it's too good to be true. My first thought when I took it out of the box was that it's quite large for a heater rated for a 12 gallon or smaller aquarium. It's almost the same height as my 10 gallon. However, I could ignore this if the heating is working well. The first night I put it on my 10 gallons and set it at 78 degrees. I got up the next morning and my tank was 88 degrees. Thank…

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • It's OK

I unpacked this heater and placed it in a 5 gallon bucket filled with water to test it out. I waited 30 minutes to turn the unit on and when I did the light came on to indicate it was heating up. After about 3 hours the temperature was 80 degrees even though the thermostat was set to 77 degrees. I have a heater control that turns off the power when the temperature hits 82 degrees, so I figured no problem, I'll use it anyway. In just 2 days I did a 50% water change and the temperature dropped to

Search continues for a decent heater

I think it's almost impossible to find a decent aquarium heater. I don't understand why it's so hard to put in a decent thermostat. Here are my problems: 1. The temperature settings on the knob are random intervals. You see in fig. I understand there isn't enough space to write every number from 65 to 89 or whatever, but the intervals are different. Sometimes they increase by 2, and sometimes by 3.2. The heater is not in series. It does not maintain a constant temperature. I had to raise my…

Cooked my Fish for aquarium heaters

Replaced a few months ago under lifetime warranty. At that time, the device no longer heated up and the temperature dropped to dangerously low values overnight. When I received the replacement block, I chose it perfectly. The temperature was stable and practically did not fluctuate. Before. a few weeks ago my wife noticed that it had risen by about two degrees. I reset it and so far everything is looking good again. 22:00 today. My wife comes into the bedroom and says we have a lot of dead fish

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors

Great for the first two months.

The heater seemed great at first and I gave it five stars initially. I'm changing that now. I have the heater less than 3 months old and it's not great. The thermostat setting is no longer accurate. I should set them 2-4 degrees higher than the actual temperature I want my aquarium to have. When I first put it in the tank it heated up surprisingly quickly, which is what I was expecting from a 300w heater. Now it's taking forever. I did a 50% water change yesterday so apparently I turned the…
