Review on 🚴 Fizik Aliante R1 Saddle: The Ultimate Comfort and Performance Solution by Carl Lipschultz

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Great saddle but I prefer the old style Aliante Gamma

This is a quality saddle, very light, only 175 grams. The carbon fiber guides and shell provide good flexibility and cushioning, while the matte Microtex finish ensures a good fit without much slippage. an old Aliante Gamma style that I currently ride. The Gamma is 260 grams heavier and has less flex in the body and rails, but is much more comfortable for longer rides. I felt better on the R1 and that's to be expected from a suitcase with padding. The shape was good too, not exactly the same as the Gamma, the nose is a bit narrower and the tail is a bit higher. Some reviews mention issues with mounting carbon rails. I use a Thomson Masterpiece seatpost which clamps the top and bottom of the rails so I haven't had any problems, but clamps that tighten on the sides of the rails may not work as the rails are 9mm round rather than 7mm mm are oval. Height. Standard width 7mm. Luckily, Fizik still makes the old-style Gamma. It's not as sexy as the R1 and it's three ounces heavier, but it's also half the price and better for me when I'm riding all day. Saddle fit is very individual and I wouldn't rate a saddle badly if there weren't obvious design or durability issues. The current Aliante range is very popular, it's quite a conservative and traditional saddle shape and the Fizik has a great reputation. Plus, they're made in Italy, which is an added bonus if you're a campy lover.
