Learning to skate for the first time as a (young!) middle-aged woman. So I was already equipped with all the expected personal protective equipment (helmet and wrist, elbow and knee protection). My figure skating instructor advised me to put on a coccyx pad before a fall, which could disrupt my active lifestyle for weeks. I would say it was worth every penny from the first drop. Once I get over the harsh shock of landing on my stomach, I know I'm fine. The downside is that they are damn hot. They are also clearly visible under clothing. I usually wear them over yoga pants and then tie my shirt around my waist for my vanity to add to the sweat factor. In fact, I bought a whole new wardrobe of clothes to dress up. However, when I meet another new skater or a reluctant skater, I immediately pull up my dress to show off and praise those soft shorts.
