After three years of trying different brands and types of hay, not to mention hundreds of dollars, I stumbled upon High Desert Timothy Hay. In case you didn't already know, Timothy Hay should make up almost all rabbit nutrition for your rabbit's best health (according to most rabbit experts and veterinarians). When I stayed with my son's rabbit I didn't know anything about the rabbit and the hay it came with seemed pretty unsavory to me. Not knowing any better, I started gathering clover and dandelions from the neighborhood to give to him. He ate vegetables. Soon he stopped eating hay. In a desperate attempt to transplant it into hay, I started buying different brands and types of hay. The only hay he ate was alfalfa hay. (All my fault) He got fat and had all kinds of stomach problems. With the help of a vet who specializes in rabbit care, his digestive system was restored, but his diet included the various fresh vegetables she recommended and Timothy's hay. Again I tried different brands of Timothy's hay, even special "Third Cut" hay. The problem was consistency between orders and sometimes even within the same box. I only got to know this brand 2 months ago. I started with the smallest package. I was pleasantly surprised. Most of the hay consisted of tender parts, without very little dust or dirt (even at the bottom of the box), at least 75% pleasant green color, aromatic, and the hay was stratified and uniform. Bappy (my rabbit's name) took a bite out of it and ate it between his fresh green "salads". I'm gradually reducing my consumption of fresh herbs. I was hesitant to order the next larger box but the price compared to the small pack was silly not to try. Just received a Β£4 box. It literally arrived the next day! I couldn't wait to open it and was pleased to find it was packaged just as well as the previous smaller box. I still choose some of the larger straws like chopsticks, but they're far fewer than other brands (including the 'most famous' ones). I'm doing this because he almost lost an eye when he was stung while eating. I just opened it up and put something in his "plate" and he went straight to work! I highly recommend it especially if you are a picky eater! I hope this continues to be the big hay I've experienced recently. The 1st image is at the top of the box and the 2nd image is in the middle tiers.
