Although the old farmer only changed the oil twice on my 1991 C1500 5.7L (I bought it in 2011), the original rear main seal and crankshaft face were in very good condition when I disassembled it in 2020. Too many people assume that the actual rubber gasket is leaking, no way, it's virtually indestructible. The PAPER GASKET between the back of the block and the GASKET BODY is leaking. You have to take the case off, grind the case mating surface on a perfectly flat surface, hammer the gasket into the case, and put some RTV on the paper gasket to seal it properly between the motor and case, and never have to worry about it again. I also replaced the stock oil pan gasket as when setting the time I cut off both ends of the oil pan gasket and then the rear main gasket housing.
