This lighter never wears out, never runs out and can be refilled by plugging into the USB port. It uses a plasma arc so the flame doesn't travel up the handle or cloud the container you're using for your candle or whatever. The child is unlikely to light anything again, because there is no flame, just an arc between two electrodes. Put something between the electrodes and it will ignite (because the arc is hotter than a gas flame). And it costs about the same as a butane gas lighter, which is either thrown away or a pain to refill.
