I bought these strips to light up the grille and engine compartment. I've been using opt7 products for years, but they don't sell 48" and 36" flex strips separately. For my purposes this kit works great but if you want a lighting kit I would recommend getting the Aura Pro strips as they have metal backed strips which are much more durable for ground lighting. The Opt7 uses 4 pin JST terminals which are not waterproof so you will need to use heat shrink tubing or tape around these connectors. Or cut the jst clips and run homemade lengths of 4-pin RGB wire. Because these are universal kits, this method allows you to trim the length of the extension back to the connector to the exact length you need.
