Review on πŸ” Improved SEO: Manfrotto 678 Monopod Folding Base, Universally Compatible (Black) by Megan Marshall

Revainrating 4 out of 5

Adds versatility to the Manfrotto monopod, but significantly adds weight and makes setup more difficult

When not in use, the base can be unscrewed, flipped up and reinserted into the bottom of the monopod, then screwed back on. This base also works with Manfrotto 679, 679B, 680, 680B, 681, 681B monopods. I chose the 680B because it's the smallest of the 679, 680 and 681 series. Note: the base is also sold as part of the Manfrotto 682B freestanding monopod, which consists of the 681 monopod and this base. The quality of the base is what you would expect from Manfrotto. It is very well built and durable. It supports the weight of my 7D and a fairly massive 17-55mm f/2.8 lens very well. The downside is that the base adds weight to the monopod and it rattles when stored in the monopod (you can try taping tape on each leg to reduce the noise). I also find it tedious to screw it on or off. A compact and lightweight carbon fiber tripod might be a better alternative if you want to travel light. The base is useful for carrying the tripod to places such as museums where the use of tripods is prohibited. Overall, this is a nice device that adds versatility to the Manfrotto monopod.
