Worked great for gear

After searching and finding the right size and color riser to switch between our top step and the carpeted riser on top. (We wanted to minimize the size of the sill covering the step and risers. We opted for a "gold" or "brass" stem and are very glad it doesn't stand out black. I did used my table saw to cut it to length, sharpening the sharp edges, following the edges of a fresh cut and used tape to secure it.
