Review on ๐Ÿšช LiftMaster 850LM: The Ultimate Universal Gate and Garage Door Opener Receiver by Instructor Niederhaus

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Not compatible with my old trusty door opener but otherwise good.

I have not been able to reliably get this receiver to work with my old 455 tail lift on the remote while the stationary bell button continued to function normally once pressed. Technical support, which incidentally was responsive and methodical in email exchanges, eventually concluded that the recipient was not compatible. My own observation was that the duration of receiver contact seemed too short to reliably actuate the opener; much shorter than a normal doorbell button press. As an electronics engineer with the appropriate training and experience, I built an intermediate device that ensures the closing of the normally closed contacts in at least 0.5 seconds, despite the relatively short pulse coming from the receiver. The resulting system works great. A single push of a button on the remote now reliably operates the door from at least 100 feet away (I didn't look further). I have documented my experience for the LiftMaster technical support staff and asked them to forward my comments to their product development team. To be truly versatile, the receiver needs to better mimic manual button presses in terms of timing. My own design experience leads me to the conclusion that the necessary configurability can be added to a product at no additional cost. I also wonder if this configurability already exists, but for some reason they don't want to tell us about it. In any case, you'll only get a brief signal anyway, and the old reliable machine may reject it.

Pros
  • Multiple remote control options available for safe and convenient in-vehicle access
Cons
