I used to have fixed kayak mounts and they worked pretty well. But I scratched the roof of my garage and had to stop several times to remove it because the car didn't fit in city parking lots. With these mounts I don't have to worry anymore! Because of the way they fold and provide additional surfaces to attach items to, they also seem very handy for transporting furniture and other odd-shaped items. Finally, since they fold fairly flat, they don't prevent me from tying large, flat items to the roof. The design and the build quality make a solid impression. There's a lot of hardware included, it really looks like a lot of thought went into their design. I'm very happy and can't wait to go kayaking this weekend!
