The pickup roller is a miniature version of the large washable/reusable lint rollers sold for clothing and furniture. For vinyl records, the instructions on the packaging are to gently grasp the handle and gently place the roller in the grooves of the record for 2-3 turns. To clean and reuse, simply rinse in warm water, shake and air dry. Do not use wet cleaning. This is not a deep cleaning tool, just an alternative to a standard brush or felt cloth for picking up light soiling. In other words, it should not be used aggressively on a plate to remove fat from Friday's fried chicken wings. If used aggressively, it will leave marks on the record but will not heal the grooves. As with felt or brush cleaners, aggressive use on a rotating pulley will result in increased belt and/or motor wear. As an alternative to felt or a record brush, I still prefer felt or a brush. And the use of LP cleaning liquid, which definitely should not be used with a roller, greatly improves the efficiency.
