We bought it when the kids were sick. We only use distilled water and follow cleaning instructions. We have had good experiences with it in a small bedroom. We keep the door almost closed to keep the moisture inside. The top isn't attached as intended, so you can rotate it to direct the flow of moisture. Filling may seem uncomfortable at first. It took a couple of times before I could trust it wasn't crumbling all over the place when I flipped it over to reattach it. :) You may be in a hurry, but the water isn't going anywhere, so take your time. Assuming you screwed the lid on properly and didn't lose the silicone seal inside the lid. ;) I would buy a few for a larger room or maybe a larger humidifier.
