quality tool! for screws

I bought this faucet to mount a Weaver on an old JC Higgins. I also have a cheap T-handle wrench to use. The wrench turned into a piece of junk and wouldn't hold the tap, so I just stuck the tap in the chuck of my cordless drill. A risky move as these HSS taps are very hard but also very brittle and can easily break if overtorqued (which is why you use a hand wrench to avoid the nightmare of a broken tap in the hole). However, I used a ton of WD40 to lubricate and moved at a snail's pace, making sure to turn the bit around frequently to clear swarf from the hole as I cut. Having never threaded thread before, I practiced on a 1/4 inch diameter piece of iron before making 2 holes in my project. The tap cut perfectly through iron and steel and made good threads in both. Good product. You can use it with a power tool without fear of breakage as long as you use lots of lube and GO SLOW!

Pros
  • Straight chip flutes ground for quick chip evacuation and efficient thread cutting
Cons
  • There are even more interesting possibilities.
