VERY SOFT MATERIAL - Nuts

******UPDATE****** After a second try I decided to update this review. I still *WARN* that this material is very soft and will not tolerate high or excessive torque. However, if they are used for lower torque applications and care is taken during installation, they will work perfectly. I used these for thumbscrews and wanted stainless steel as the item was intended for both indoor and outdoor use. However, I do not recommend this article for the automotive sector because the hardness of the material is too low/soft. ***** INITIAL REVIEW ***** The whole reason for this purchase was the fact that I needed something that would be both resistant to the elements and durable. They have been used outdoors on a regular basis and the occasional rain/humidity. I don't see any problems in this respect since, as I said, it is stainless steel. The problem is the durability mostly with threads. After only installing 3 of these, I noticed plaque forming on the installation tool. I checked the installed rivet nuts and in fact I saw thread distortion on two of them. Just to be sure, I tried hand tightening the M5 bolt and after only 4-5 turns it jammed. Tried to unscrew with a screwdriver with a T25 bit, about halfway I unscrewed the screw because it was trying to jam. I will admit that the thread distortion was most likely caused by me during installation from applying a lot of torque to the nut setting tool. I didn't know how soft this metal would be. I was able to tighten the third rivet nut by hand and then apply the specified torque with the screwdriver mentioned above. After that I removed the screw and found that even using a screwdriver handle to apply the torque was too much. I ended up having to use a 1/4" screwdriver with a T25 bit to unscrew it, and I found that the screw's threads were filled with metal from the rivet nut (both stainless steel), although I could thread them in by hand (with my fingers). I don't know if the larger sizes would be better as I only had to use the M5 size as it is made of the same material and I expect it will give the same results. I can't say that this product is defective as I may have just used it in the wrong situation, just didn't expect the material to be so soft and the threads to be damaged so easily.
