After a lifetime of rolling pie crust and cutting cookie dough on any floured clean surface and being disappointed with the results, my son recommended using a silicone mat instead. What has changed in the game! Well I don't know why anyone would want to roll out pie dough or cut out cookie dough on anything other than a silicone mat. I love the marked circles that tell me instantly if I rolled out enough dough for the pie pan. Hot water and dish soap clean the mat easily. However, due to its size and flexibility, it is still difficult to clean. I usually end up with a wet shirt and wet meters. I don't often bake cookies on the carpet. Only a slightly discolored edge appeared during baking. I use three silicone mats of different sizes for different purposes. I suggest you keep all silicone mats rolled up and away from knives and other sharp objects that could cut the mat so it's just for the trash.
