I bought some CDs on a recent trip to New England. Tired of watching TV in hotels, I bought this player from RadioShack to at least listen to my CDs. I can't remember why I thought a $30 player would sound good. Maybe because years ago two brands made great sounding entry-level PCDPs: Toshiba and Philips. Conclusion: The turntable sounded *surprisingly* badly: imagine you're standing in the kitchen frying eggs while the hi-fi system is playing in the oven. an old mono record is playing in the living room: very high noise level, almost no stereo "pictureโ, the music is uninvolved and somehow "sterileโ. The playback time with a fresh set of lye is a maximum of 9-12 hours. My entry-level 5-year-old Toshiba SL-CT 490 gives me about 18 hours. To verify that the problem was really with the headphones that came with the player, I used headphones that cost four times the price of the player. : Audio Technica ATH-AD700 (open back): no, same, disappointing result. i love offers Some of my best hi-fi equipment costs chips. However, this player is overpriced - even at 29.99.
