Review on πŸ“ Vilros Raspberry Pi 4 4GB Basic Starter Kit with Fan-Cooled Durable Aluminum Alloy Case for Enhanced Performance by Dawn Wilson

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Went there with no reviews and I love it!

I took a chance with no reviews, one in addition to the regular set and I'm very happy with it. The case is really solid, beefy and the fan is good, with two pin modes (quiet and normal). If you're like me doing this as a weekend project, let me save you some time as you may have some of the same questions during the installation: Fan: Take an extra second to carefully read the instructions for connecting the fan . It's very easy and straightforward to install, but if you mix up the pins like I did, the fan will run but abort the boot process (giving you a solid red light with no green). I thought it was an eeprom error and was spending too much time troubleshooting this way, but realized I had mixed up the wires. Now it works great with no problems - Feet: The rubber feet are really cut out of glue, even if they don't look like it at first glance, just peel and stick, no need to cut them out - Cooler: It's not. it doesn't look like the two smaller heatsinks (out of 4) can be attached to the top of the case; Instead, two heat pipes run down from the case top and rest on two small chips. Maybe one day I'll apply thermal paste to make the connection, but that day isn't today. The other two, larger ones, fit well. Placement: First gently insert the power/HDMI connectors on the Pi board into their holes and then press down and they should be snug. Otherwise the holes will not match and you will be confused for a moment. The case snaps into place and remains firmly secured, followed by four screws from the bottom to secure. A mic to HDMI adapter is also nice to have.

Pros
  • looking forward to it
Cons
  • poorly thought out
