The soft-close opens a little, but easily turns off for ease of use.
Judging by the reviews, the closer has significant resistance to opening. I installed them for my grandmother who is losing her strength to replace the cheap plastic bottles the builder used that always break. By removing the plastic latch on the back you can disable the soft close and they slide easily. A bit too easy as I couldn't perfectly align a set of rails without a level so the drawer just popped out on its own. I decided to turn off the soft close on one rail and leave it on the other. At this height, the drawers close gently, but even my grandma can open them.
