Me before purchasing these knobs: Why in the world are knobs at the hardware store $4 a piece? Oh these look good!Me after the knobs arrived: $#&$ cheap knobs!The issue is this - the threads only go about 1/4 inch into the knob. This is by design. You can see it in the cross-section picture on the listing. But who looks, right? The knob has a nice long neck, but most of it is not threaded. Also, the threads start about 1/8 inch inside the collar. That means the length of the screw has to be exactly right - too short, and the threads will not engage. Too long, and the knob won't be flush to your door. My cabinet door is 3/4 inch. Neither screw will work. A 1 inch thickness is your best bet for the long screws. A half inch thickness may work for the short screws.The other variable is that the screws are not really 1" and 1 1/4" as described. They are metric. The longer, 37 mm screw is closest to 1 3/8". The short screw looks to me to be 15/16". With so little room for error in the thread length, your chance of these knobs working is slim.UPDATE: A kindly man at the hardware store I'd initially eschewed introduced me to breakaway screws. I was skeptical, but they did indeed solve my problem. Be prepared to spend an extra $4 and some elbow grease if you go with these knobs. One knob in my set had even less threads than the others and couldn't be used. Otherwise, they are attractive and (now) functional.
