I know very little about electricity but I learned more with this one. Gave it 4 stars because as others have said it would be nice if it didn't have to spend another 5-7 bucks to find a way to house it and extend the cables. Here's what I did. I took a wall mount box ($4.99) about an inch deep and a rosette (less than $1) and cut a small hole in the lid (using a drill and jigsaw) to fit the counter. I crimped extension cords (about 3 feet) onto small, delicate looking wires for my needs. I drilled small holes in the box for the wires, ran through and attached the alligator clips. Splices and smaller wires stay in the box to make it more durable. Then I had fun testing my solar panels to see what they produce and my batteries. It was finally installed in the box that contains the inside of our electric gates and monitors the condition of the battery, which was dead even after the replacement. Using this tool I found that the main solar panel (12 years old) had failed and the auxiliary cable (factory installed) had been flipped over and NEVER did anything. Mounted in a small window in the gate box, we can now see the battery status on every exit. Ordered a second one to be mobile to check stuff.
