I've used a variety of styluses over the years including Shure models, Audio Technica (we're going back), Ortofon, etc. The old school Shure M44-7 was my favorite because of tone, clarity and intensity. As you probably know, this option is not considered. As a solution, I chose Ortofon Red. Great pen. Very accurate, excellent tracking, looks amazing but almost too good to be true. I found it could compete with a CD and sounded almost like a CD. At least on my system. There's nothing wrong. This is a real technical achievement! So I rummaged in my bag and bought an Ortofon Blue and am very happy with it. It meets all the requirements and I am very happy with it. How does it differ in terms of sound from the Ortofon 2M Blue? I find the 2M Blue very similar, but with a slightly more open and full sound. But that means listening very carefully through headphones and being overly critical. Sitting in my chair and listening through the speakers (I'm using Klipsch and a Marantz PM6006 amp) there's no noticeable difference. So why did I buy the AT-VM95EN? Shiabata. There is nothing pretentious about this line. It's so wonderful in every way. Perfect mount (nuts built into the cartridge for easy installation/alignment. Looks fantastic. Inexpensive and competes with much more expensive other options. I also bought this because I have more than one turntable. The desk I use 2M Blue on is the same one I use to digitize vinyl I needed something I could use that won't break the bank but is also fantastic to hear The AT-VM95EN checks all the boxes And the best part is when I can playing old used vinyl I can easily replace the AT-VM95C stylus (blue) with no alignment or down pressure adjustment This is a compelling system I was so pleased with it that I even wrote to the company to tell them how much i appreciate it.Now i will most likely switch to microline(red) or shiabata(brown) one day.But today i LOVE the AT-VM95EN.-VM95e(green) assuming e r is similar but smaller than the AT-VM95EN. In case you're wondering, the inexpensive AT-VM95C is worth checking out too if you don't want to play those old records without ruining your AT-VM95EN.
