What struck me about this tool is that it is adjustable. I like the idea of being able to cut 4-1/4 holes and 6-1/4 holes for lighting. When I received the tool I was glad I had made a test cut on a piece of drywall before making the final cuts. When I adjusted the blade width to 4-1/4 to match my tape measure, the opening was slightly larger since the blades were facing out. I had to adapt to this during test cuts and finally achieved the perfect result. . I think I set the cutting area at 4-1/8 according to my tape measure and the hole was perfect for 4-1/4". Not sure why the blades indicate that, maybe it's for that I ended up cutting all the holes I needed for the lights with no problems, but like I said I'm glad I did a test cut first to check the size of the hole.
