They definitely do their job. I train with my child. He wears boxing gloves and we practice punches and kicks every day. He loves it and it's important for me and my son to be active. We've used a variety of dinner gloves in the past and they're pretty good. They look a little cheap, but for the price they definitely work. You are strong. Very light, wish they were a little heavier so I could feel them better. What I like best is that the fingers are open at the ends. Unlike other gloves we've used, this keeps my hands feeling dry and not sweaty all the time. You also have better control over the gauntlets when holding them. I would give 5 stars for the thicker leather.
