Review on Master Lock M176XDLHHC M176XDLHCCSEN Die Cast by Jordan Rini

Feels like a solid lock

Masterlock locks are one of the famous brands, but they still use inferior materials that rust easily. This lock appears to be some type of alloy but it says it's boron carbide, don't know how much stronger it is than stainless steel but looks pretty solid and hopefully rust resistant. The clasp loop can be over 3 inches, so mounting on a gate where you need to fold it over to open, or tying additional items together makes the extra space so useful. Most of the exposed parts, like the keyhole (yes, there was an emergency key to unlock in case of a forgotten combination) or the 4-digit combination, have rubber or plastic covers. However, there are a couple of open holes and I'm afraid that during a rainstorm water will get in here and rust the inside. I thought they forgot the combo but it hid where the combo reset button is so don't throw away the packaging before resetting the combo. Resetting was easy, just open the lock with the given combination, turn the key and set the new number while holding the key in that position. It was easy to do. Overall the quality seems better than most masterlocks I've seen. I tried selecting this combination using the indentation method, but it didn't work for me. Hence 4 stars for now. If it proves as strong as expected I'll bump it up to 5. It's a good two-way lock for now, so 4 stars for now.
