One thing every carpenter knows when checking a measurement is to turn the spirit level back to back to make sure the measurements match. on the one hand it is impossible. It's also good to be able to fold down the left top to check the level. Again, the viewing window makes this impossible. If it were a standard window within a plane, like the windows used to display a plumb line, you could examine the plane from 4 different positions. So you only get 1.
