Review on Okami Knives 8-inch Japanese Damascus Stainless Steel Chef Knife - High Carbon Sharp Kitchen Cutlery, Lightweight & Ergonomic Gyuto by Heather Richardson

Blade falls apart when sharpened with okami sharpener - 1 year old version UPDATED

Original: The knife was great for a year when fed about 3 times a week. I went to sharpen it with Okami's sharpening tool and after a few passes the blade started falling apart. Nice knife. Sharp knife. Not a durable knife. Update: Okami took care of the issue by replacing the knife free of charge within 2 days of filing the complaint. They suggested it might have been part of a bad batch. I have rarely experienced better customer service. I look forward to using this knife often, although I will likely avoid the sharpener and use other methods to deal with dull blades. Out of the box, it's not as sharp as my Wüsthoff Ikon, but good enough for home use.

Pros
  • Great for me
Cons
  • not reliable
