The knurled end of the short rod is also free to rotate. All that twisting really creates a cheap, crappy, low-quality feel that doesn't feel secure. it had to be designed in such a way that all parts were securely fixed without rotation. The design is poor but the materials themselves and the fabric case are of good quality.
