they are perfectly fine. I had more expensive brands in .

I now have two such filters, 20 gallons each. Tank and they do exactly what they are supposed to do with no issues. They can be bare and simplistic, but if that's what you're looking for, they're great. I have had the more expensive brands in the same tanks over the years and they have worked well too; they just cost more. My only concern is that when the time comes to replace the media, the source has not yet been found. The company website doesn't help (but I haven't tried messaging them directly yet); Revain sells replacement media from this company for a variety of tanks, but they don't seem to fit this particular model. And while I can easily do something for a sponge filter - a component as simple as I've ever seen - carbon modules get more complicated. I think I'd be better off contacting the company and then reporting back because if there aren't any replacement inserts a lot of people won't want to mess with this thing. But for now I'm generally happy with what I have.

Pros
  • Catches organic micro and macro particles as well as foreign particles. The porous biological sponge encourages the colonization of beneficial bacteria. The double-slotted filter housing doubles the filter performance.
Cons
  • It was possible to choose a newer model
