Beast mode - only in certain situations

1. If you need to cut down a tree where you have full access to the branches, this is the right tool. The gearing gives you a little more power for chopping big branches provided (and I can't stress this enough) YOU HAVE FULL, UNLIMITED ACCESS TO THE AREA YOU WANT TO MAKE. RES.2. If you have branches on the ground this is a great tool. I don't have a lot of arm muscles, so I devised a method to compensate. First, I open the handles fully and firmly grasp a branch lying on the lawn. Holding the branch in the claws of the blades, I place one of the handles on the lawn. Then I put my best on the mid-air hold with both hands and use the ground as a support for the opposite hold. I can easily cut through any branch I can fit into the hole in the blade with little or no muscle strain. If you want to selectively remove certain branches in a dense tree, THIS IS NOT SUITABLE. The handles must open nearly 180 degrees to reveal the blades, which are large enough for a large branch. Even for a small branch, the handles need plenty of room to open much wider than a traditional non-geared pruner. It's just not possible when you're standing on a ladder and observing a certain creek in the middle of a tree that needs to be removed. The long 32-inch handles further exacerbate the problem. It's like destroying a grass hut with a nuclear bomb or painting your toenails with a paint roller. In fact, more isn't always better. a pretty sturdy chick, but there's no way I could use it at shoulder height or higher for long. If you have lumberjack biceps that's no problem, but for the rest of us I recommend the Fiskars 32" PowerGear UltraBlade Bypass Lopper (8154). It has slightly different handles but similar cutting abilities and weighs almost TWO LOUNDS LESS than this model. In summary, this is either a great tool or a terrible tool depending on your needs. I think it's a handy SECOND pair of pruners, but I don't want it to be my only pruner.
