I make a living from reforestation and the first model of these pruning shears is still working after over 5 years! I've sharpened them hundreds of times and never had a problem with them. I had to use it because the handles had to be opened too far to get a cut. My other pruners only needed to be partially extended to get a full cut. Very uncomfortable. I really don't like the design. My other pruners don't need to be opened fully to get a 2 inch cut. You can't chop down trees, extending the handles all the way does everything and everyone in the way. Not ergonomic at all. Gears improve cutting performance, but they come with a major disadvantage. The disadvantage is that you have to open the handles very wide! That makes it harder to get into a tight branch, not to mention how much slower it is than standard loppers. If you don't have the strength to make incisions then this might be a better alternative.
