Can't give all 5 stars because obviously it's a thin little wire that should cut the cake BUT because it's a thin little wire it works fine . The cake needs to be the perfect size and temperature before slicing, and the cutter needs to sit perfectly on the counter. When these requirements are met, a good, clean cut is usually obtained. I use this product from time to time and sometimes prefer to cut the cake by hand to be more certain of its symmetry. I've had several unfortunate occasions where I didn't meet the above requirements before slicing the cake with this food slicer.
