Review on πŸ”Ά De-Solv-it Contractors' Solvent by Orange Sol - Effective Solution for Easy Removal by Josh Suter

Great for removing glue but buy a larger size

We had old floor tiles in our basement. Having spent several hours removing the tiles, little did I know that the most difficult task was ahead - removing the rough black adhesive. We don't have good ventilation in our basement, so I wanted to avoid anything that gives off extremely toxic fumes. I've tried TSP with very little success (lots of scratching and few rip-offs). I also tried a heat gun - the hair dryer started smoking after 5 minutes and the glue hadn't softened. Of course, I probably had a faulty hair dryer, but even when it worked, it seemed to cover a very small area, so the job would take forever. I came across Orange Sol's solution by accident and decided to give it a try. To my delight, the glue became sticky. There was still a lot of work to be done, it was still dirty, but the work was doable. I went through a few blades, lots of rags but most of the glue came off. After trying many different things, the system that seemed to work best seemed to be spraying the adhesive with Orange Sol, covering it with paper towels (putting some pressure on the paper towel to make sure it touched the bottom ), and come back for a few hours and wipe it down, repeating if necessary, scraping off the thickest parts with a stiff spatula or razor blade scraper. .The product also claims to work in the wash so I sprayed the clothes I used to remove the glue before washing with good but not great results. Some (not all) of the mucus came off, the stains remained, but this did not further damage the clothes. My only advice is to go up a size. This one weighs only 9 ounces. I found 32-ounce aerosol cans at a hardware store for about $15. If you have an area larger than the fridge, you will use several of these bottles. I'm giving 4 stars because of the size per dollar. I give the product itself 5 stars. Orage Sol manufactures several products. Make sure you get solvent contractors. Larger products come in a clear bottle and the liquid is available in yellow or orange.

Pros
  • Quick remover effective for removing liquid insulation
Cons
  • Out of style
