Review on Fujinon XC 50-230mm F4.5-6.7 Black πŸ“· Camera Lens: Flexible Zoom for Exceptional Photography by Kio Park ᠌

Revainrating 5 out of 5

A very high-quality product, I take it not for the first time.

I bought it as a telephoto lens in addition to the kit lens 18-55 / 2.8-4 for Fujifilm X-E2. It was necessary to shoot the tops of the trees. This lens allows you to get a picture, as if I were shooting close young growth, and not forty-year-old tall trees. Requires a very firm hand, otherwise shake, ideally - shoot from a tripod. It showed itself very well when shooting various events from a tripod. Given the non-everyday use of the lens, I am satisfied. The zoom is fully manual (mechanical), fast (for a telephoto) autofocus, there is the possibility of manual focusing (albeit using the same electric motor that autofocuses). This model does not have a separate aperture control ring, but it can be configured so that the wheel on the camera itself is responsible for this (electronic control, there is a mode for alternating aperture settings and additional shutter speeds), the setting can be either automatic or manual. You can install macro rings, then you get a macro lens with a very wide focus area (with a small spread of distances, even autofocus can handle it, and with a large spread, focusing with a zoom: from 0.5 m to 1.5 m). Rings can be taken both original fuji and inexpensive Chinese ones, but they must have contacts to control the lens electronics, otherwise it will not be possible to control either the focus setting or the aperture.

Pros
  • Excellent quality optics, fast focusing, relatively light, pleasant to the touch. Allows you to get a clear picture of very distant objects, and also helps a lot when shooting concerts or other events, but from a tripod. Almost does not glare in the light directed at it.
Cons
  • In not very strong lighting, it requires longer shutter speeds than whale 18-55, so you can get blurry pictures on the machine. If you switch to manual shutter speed and aperture and with a secure fixation, the pictures are clear. It focuses slower and louder than the whale 18-55, autofocus does not always grab what you want, but if you try a little, it turns out well. The zoom ring is covered with rubber, which from time to time becomes hard and gray, which is not very pleasing - it will suddenly begin to crumble. Due to the lack of an aperture ring, it requires installing a new firmware on the camera, which is not difficult to do using the official website, but it is slightly annoying. The lack of new firmware for this lens is somewhat upsetting (although maybe they haven’t found any problems that should be fixed with firmware yet)))
