Review of: SUMPRI Grill Mat (Set of 6) Non-Stick BBQ Grill MatsI’ve never used a grill mat before, just always made sure that what I was putting on the grill was large enough to not slip through the grates. Of course, that always limited what I could put on the grill. Now, though, after trying the Sumpri with some small strips/pieces of pork on my gas grill, I’m ‘talking-to-myself’ and asking why I waited so long to try grill mats. For me, these mats worked fantastically … I’m now a big fan of the Sumpri Grill Mats.In my test, I found that each mat is large enough to cover either the entire grill opening or at least cover a good portion of the grill opening. Some of the pieces of pork I wanted to grill where fairly small, but, as long as I didn’t accidently move them off the mat there was no danger of them falling through. From a quality standpoint, each mat appears to me to be thick enough to hold up well under repeated use on the grill (or in an oven); they are sturdy enough so that they don’t feel too thin or feel that they are likely to tear just by moving them from one place to another. From a non-stick perspective, the mat I used during my BBQ session was incredible. For me, even though I try to get the grill grates really hot and well oiled the meat does, at least somewhat, always seem stick to the grates. But, with the Sumpri Grill Mat there was no sticking, none at all. I was even able to not just pick up the meat but was able to slide the meat from one side of the mat to another side with no issues. The area that I think most surprised me, and in a very good way, was the meat actually took some color as it was being cooked and I could see the grill marks from the grates appearing on the cuts of meat. And, with that color came the classic BBQ flavor/taste that I wanted. In my test, the pork did indeed taste as if it had been grilled on a BBQ.Clean-up was super easy. I didn’t have to leave the grill on from another 10 minutes to make sure that any pieces of meat stuck on the grates got ‘burned away’; I didn’t have to scrub the grill with a grill brush. Instead, I waited until the mat was cool, brought it inside the house and simply washed away the residue on the mat. And when I want to grill again, I’ll just put on another mat and I’ll be ready to go.The tongs and the oil are nice-to-have items; they look to be of reasonably good construction. I used the tongs when doing my BBQ session and they worked find, though the silicon ‘tips’ of the tongs did seem to make the hold on the meat a little less solid when compared to non coated tongs but having that non-stick texture on the tongs easily makes up for that. For me, and for my family who tasted the meal I made on the BBQ, this Sumpri mat is an easy 5-star item.If this review was helpful, please click the Helpful button below
