Call me lazy, but while the battery grip can be used for specific camera functions like focusing, I only used it for its primary purpose of providing extra power. I've been using my battery grip with Canon and Power Extra batteries for 2 years and I'm very impressed. I can take over 700 photos at an event without changing camera batteries. I'm using a Canon Rebel T3i, which looks very small without the extra accessories. However, when I add the battery grip, I am told that the camera looks more "official". I totally agree that when it comes to the battery grip, many people assume it's a full frame camera or that I spent a lot of money on my camera. This perception can be useful for marketing! I have used the grip in light rain and had no problems. On windy days at the beach, sand got into the battery grip slots, but the grip still worked perfectly. The grip is solid and the nock fits perfectly. If I ever decide to use other controls on the battery grip, I'll update this post with my findings. Having said that, I have to admit that the added weight of the camera when using the battery grip for a long time, especially when there is also a speedlite flash on the camera, was a little annoying at first, but I got used to it over time as I do a lot of photoshoots and light developments make.
