After trying to calibrate this heater for almost a week I gave up. The final straw was, on my way home from work, I found my tank had heated up to almost 90 degrees. My fish almost turned into fish sticks. Also a valid tip on Frankenstein noise. This heater can run for about 10 minutes and generate an annoying buzz while it decides whether to stay on or off. To set the temperature, I can turn the knob all the way and nothing happens, or I can turn it slightly and it suddenly turns on and then off, or I can just leave it alone and come back the next day to see if it does she's trying to super cook my tank. I reject this case. I have an elite mini immersion heater and it's ten times better than that crap. I urge you to stop selling this item here.
