The problem is all the instructions are in Japanese so you have two diagrams on the back of the box. One shows the contents of the envelope being poured into a pot and stirred; the second shows the hardened contents of the pan being scooped out with a spatula as a single hardened mass. In my experience, while the contents of the packets will at least somewhat soak up the oil in the pan, the end product isn't much different than if I just let the pan cool on its own. The "hardened" oil had to be scraped off the pan in the same manner as if I had just let it cool and then scraped it off.
