Review on πŸ”§ IIT 90200 Eyelet Pliers: The Ultimate Eyelet Solution with 100 Eyelets Included by Carrie Spencer

Works great but better buy eyelets

I needed eyelets for a suit I made for my kid. After reading reviews of all possible means, I decided on this one. There were NO instructions included and there were no instructions to be found on the manufacturer's website either. To unlock the pliers you have to remove a small metal cylinder from a hole in the side mechanism - that took a while to figure out. Where this cylinder came out there is a hole punch to make a hole in the fabric. Here is a sliding piece of metal that screws into the side of the tong to adjust the depth from the edge to make a punch. The hole punch didn't work well on my fabric - satin - but worked well enough that I was able to use scissors to make a hole. It was actually very easy to press the buttonhole into the fabric and you don't need to be particularly handy to do it. The grommets that come with the pliers are 3/16" (4.7mm). They are single sided. At least when applied to satin they leave very jagged metal edges on the other side. After I have grommets on After practicing additional fabric, I decided they wouldn't work for this fabric - they would stick and cause streaks. Maybe other single-sided eyelets are different, but these seem very cheap. I've found two-piece eyelets (I still am not sure about the difference between these grommets with washers and grommets (although it seems the grommets could be bigger?) which on Michael's Crafts were 3/16" and worked great. The suit looks professional and there are no sharp or ripped edges on both sides. I think these pliers can easily be used for the next smaller size, 1/8" grommets, but you don't want to use them to punch through fabric n because the hole would be too big and the eyelet would pull and slip. I think you could probably use these for the next size 1/4" grommets as well, but the hole may need to be enlarged after using the hole punch. Overall, this is an easy product to use and did exactly what it said it would should do without much manual force and without damaging the eyelets or the fabric.I would have given 5 stars if the eyelets that came with it weren't so cheap.
