Review on LG BD530 1080p Network Blu-ray Disc Player: A Revolutionary 2010 Model for Ultimate Home Entertainment by Saul Rivera

Good player! Gotta love the USB feature!

Not sure what the negative reviews are about, maybe some buyers got a defective product from LG but mine works great! First, let me say that I will not complain that the player does not have Netflix, Rhapsody, Facebook, etc. My TV has built-in Wi-Fi that allows me to access Netflix, so I don't need to shell out extra money for a fancy player that could browse all the websites. Anyone who wanted a player like that should have looked elsewhere. This player clearly states that its capabilities are limited to Youtube, Picasa and AccuWeather. Buying it and expecting something different is a bad buy on the part of consumers. In terms of video quality, I don't have a large collection of Blu-rays, so my experience is mainly with DVD upscaling, which the player does excellently. Unlike the Memorex I own, this player minimizes almost all DVD grain and motion blur to the point where it looks almost as good as a Blu-ray. The Blu-rays I played were also played in pure HD 1080p with this player. The real attraction for me, however, is the USB stick. All you have to do is insert an external hard drive or memory card and the player is ready to play your content, be it videos, pictures or music. So I watched two movies, one in MPEG4 format and the other in AVI format, and they both played fine. A few reviewers reported freezing and freezing, but I didn't have either with my player. I haven't updated the firmware though, so who knows if newer updates might cause problems. The player takes some time to load initially, but I hardly find waiting a few seconds an inconvenience. All in all the LGBD530 is a great player that I would recommend to anyone looking for a solid player to watch movies via DVD, Blu-Ray or USB. If you need something to play your Netflix, look elsewhere.
