Purchased 2.25mm I have several sets of spare needles as well as a decent collection of non-removable circular needles. My favorite brand is HiyaHiya for their sharp point, smooth finish (metal and bamboo) and smooth joints, but I really like the square needles which they don't make yet. Square knitting needles do not tire your hands as much as they are easier to hold. I use Knitters Pride replacement needles (they are fine, quality control is low. bent when trying to tighten them on the cord) as well as KnitPicks wooden squares (no complaints except they only come in dark colors, which is tricky with to use dark yarn). Unfortunately, these two brands only offer plus sizes, so I really wanted to try Addi's socks. It's hard to tell that the small needles are square, but the protrusions are noticeable and make a big difference. I even like the slight vibration when one needle crosses another. For sock pins, this is definitely my new favorite. CONS They could have been better if they gave them the pointed Addi lace tip - I find the rockets too rounded for my liking. They make it difficult to pick up stitches to decrease or "make" stitches - all you have to do is insert the needle into more than one stitch, e.g. I still liked them enough to buy the US9 and can't wait to see if I like the big sizes as much as the small ones.
