My English budgies and American parrots eat seeds so they need sand to grind up those seeds. Most of the other grits I've tried were too big and some of my birds were coughing and gagging because of the size. This chicken grit is tiny and the perfect size and my birds seem to enjoy the flavor as they willingly eat it when sprinkled onto the seeds. I highly recommend this sand for American budgies and English budgies. I find this works well for parakeets, cockatiels, and any other small breed of parrot as well. Remember to only sprinkle sand lightly over the seeds or other food. They don't need much, just a little is enough to break down their food.
