I bought this because it had a pickaxe function that other items lacked and judging by the description and other reviews I took the plunge. The box came with no instructions but I was able to figure out how to customize it and switch from an ax to a shovel. So it looks pretty solid at first glance, but I'll take a look and dig a small hole in the backyard. Everything was reliable, and when both the shovel and pickaxe were used interchangeably, the pickaxe would bend in half and eventually break. The shovel is also bent in the wrong place, affecting the adjustment of the grip, making it weaker. I wouldn't consider it an emergency after using it 1 time. It belongs to the garden department, to say the least.
