This is a very good sketchbook - it's a bit more "jagged" (rougher texture) than other sketchbooks of this size/format I have and I really like it. I also like ecru paper rather than the faded blues and whites of many sketchbooks. I've mostly tried colored pencils but I've also tried watercolor and gouache and they did a great job with them, surprisingly I wouldn't do it. I don't water-treat this paper, but I just painted a few strokes with Daniel Smith Moonglow and not only did it split into different colors, it even showed grain. Certainly not as strong as coarsely textured or cold-pressed watercolor paper, but it works great as an art journal or for quick watercolor sketches.
