I have a unique desk with a second tier to put a lamp on or place a laptop vertically, but it doesn't have a lip on the back to clamp on like a traditional monitor arm. But with the top screw mount, it works with my desk. This mount is sturdy and works like any other. My only complaint is that the monitor's tilt adjustment is tight. It's hard to make it harder. Luckily, my 27-inch monitor isn't too heavy to tilt down too much.
