Wouldn't recommend, good for kitchen utensils and gadgets
We needed a mortar and pestle to grind up very small (sand sized) pieces of rock to make our own watercolor pigments. It doesn't last. We've used it twice and our pigments have a fine powdery mortar and pestle in them rather than the actual pigments. It's my fault for trying to save money, but I wouldn't recommend this to anyone who could use it to grind anything hard. Possibly suitable for mild spices. Otherwise, you could end up with pieces of this stone in your food.
