I don't care about the wire mesh used for the upper access platform. It is bad for the guinea pig's feet. I think a flat plastic sheet would be the best option. I use a thick foam bath mat over wire screens to prevent my guinea pigs from injuring their legs and feet. I also believe a hinged door system would make access for cleaning easier. I replaced the plastic panel with a metal mesh panel for hanging water bottles because the plastic panels are too big for a guinea pig and none of the panels have pre-cut holes for hanging water bottles. Instructions show attaching panels with plastic latches before using cable ties. I suggest zip tying the two panels together and then use washers as there is not much room between the plastic and metal frame to thread the zip ties after the washers are in place. On a positive note, there is enough space for 4 guinea pigs. The downside is how the platform for the top level is attached. The angle is a bit too steep for my piglets' comfort. I believe that the best design is guaranteed.
