Review on CHAMPKEY Tri-Turf Golf Hitting Mat - Ultimate Indoor and Outdoor Training Tool for Golfers by Andrew Schreider

Seems like a lot for a rug but it's worth it

I milked another rug from a big store for years when I finally decided to buy a decent one. I have to admit I was a bit shocked at the prices of some of the rugs. There are many options, but one thing was clear to me, I wanted the rubber lip all the way around, it protects the artificial grass edges well. This was the reason my last mat failed, there is no heavy rubber edge - you get caught on the lawn edge for some reason and it moves off the base. Here you simply bounce off the edge of the rubber. The tee-off-in-the-grass picture is a bit deceptive, there is no spongy component under the turf, only hard rubber. The tee is shown to be supported by the turf itself, standing in one section with the ball on it due to the density of the artificial turf. You could probably put a tee in the "rough" section as well. I have found that I mainly use this on the rough, it mimics the rough near the fairway or around the green very well. This is great for practicing wedge play. I managed to do it once, put the ball close to the edge of the midsection and landed a little early and hit the edge of the turf. A thread or two has come loose, but there's no serious damage, and let me tell you, seven pounds of rubber won't budge on the floor even if you catch it by the edge. Overall, this is a great way to save your weed. Well, or if you don't have a decent turf, it mimics very well what you'll find in a good pitch. I would buy it again.
