The Startech USB 3.1 Gen 2 Enclosure flawlessly delivers SuperSpeed Plus (10 Gbps) data transfer speeds between my XPS 8920 desktop computer and an external hard drive. To achieve the maximum transfer speed, the computer, the external enclosure and the USB cable must support the 3.1 Gen 2 protocols. The Startech case takes over this role from the hard drive side and offers a transfer rate of almost 200 Mbit/s using a normal 7200 rpm hard drive in the case. My previous USB 3.0 hard drive enclosure (aka 3.1 Gen 1) only allowed about 30Mbps transfer. It's worth noting that this is the transfer speed between devices and has nothing to do with the read/write speeds of hard drives and solid state drives has to do.
