Good form and function for external SSDs

I used this enclosure for my Seagate BarraCuda Pro 7200RPM Internal 3.5" Hard Drive SATA 6GB/s 256MB Cache (ST10000DM0004) and it has like works like clockwork. The case has an attractive aluminum body. The base/leg is stable. The installation is very easy. Place the hard drive over the tiny holes and use a tiny Phillips screwdriver to insert the provided screws. With the included cables, you'll be up and running in minutes. The sleek metal body looks great and installing the hard drive is very

Pros
  • Confident
Cons
  • Long delivery time

The good thing about the case is that the outer shell is made of aluminum-like material. However, the inner shell is made of plastic. And since it's so narrow (don't get me wrong, the drive fits comfortably - I didn't have to slide it in - it's just that there's not much room to breathe around the drive) and there's only airflow on the front the drive heats up a bit when touched, which I don't like that much. I used this enclosure to house a 10TB Seagate IronWolf hard drive to back up my NAS…

Excellent build quality, fast UI - not too hot or noisy.

I originally had a WD Blue 1TB 7200rpm drive in this type, it worked great even though it sat quite noisy on my wooden table. I recently replaced this drive with a WD Blue 4TB 5400rpm drive as the storage device for my photo editing equipment. MUCH QUIETER. I didn't notice the drive overheating when writing hundreds of GB of files. It's good. USB 3.1 is fast - UASP makes a significant difference in speed as other reviewers have pointed out. Also, this case looks awful!

Pros
  • Don't waste too much time
Cons
  • Not as thick as the other options

So far so good with Xbox One X

While I know the Xbox One doesn't support UASP (hopefully yet), this case is significantly better than the previous Thermaltake Max 5G case I've used. Installing the drive and closing it was easy enough. The case is fairly simple in design but durable and doesn't look like an eyesore in my entertainment center. The front blue LED is pretty bright, it's impossible to turn it off, but it's no big deal. Highly recommended!

  • Pleasant
Cons
  • Too silly

Excellent product built to the latest USB 3.1 Gen 2 standards

Of the various 3.5 inch cases I've tested, this one is my favourite. It reaches very high speeds on USB 3.1 Gen-2. 1 (USB3.0) or Gen 2 connector. The case is aluminum (great for heat dissipation) and comes with a quality cable (very long enough). It is easy to assemble and very durable. And it has a power button, unlike some ready-made devices. Plug in a Western Digital NAS or Black drive and you're good to go! And he looks beautiful. I have a 6TB 5400rpm WD NAS drive in one and a 2TB 7200rpm…

Happy with it so far. Pros: - SMART Utility with SAT SMART driver gives me support for Smartmontools SMART monitoring on my iMac. - Only tested on USB 3.0 so far, but the speed limiter was not the case with the drive. - It is very easy to install the drive and it fits snugly under my monitor on the side. Smart future-proofing as more computers support USB 3.1. The only noise is the drive itself. Cons: not enough room for convective airflow) which means you have to keep it away from warm things…

Pros
  • Top marks for support and durability from testers
Cons
  • Upgradable

Read error for heat. PATH is too hot.

I have this in black. The build quality of my device is so terrible I have to post. Slow read around 50MB/s in CrystalMark. It seems that you have to be VERY careful when connecting and installing. If it is off, you will get disk sector errors. I've reinstalled it several times. From about 7 installations everything worked correctly for me once. Most of the time reads 50MBps. Failed only a few times, I couldn't even format the drive with so many sector errors. Now it reads well. I'm using all…

Pros
  • Easy to install
Cons
  • Very expensive

The Startech USB 3.1 Gen 2 Enclosure flawlessly delivers SuperSpeed Plus (10 Gbps) data transfer speeds between my XPS 8920 desktop computer and an external hard drive. To achieve the maximum transfer speed, the computer, the external enclosure and the USB cable must support the 3.1 Gen 2 protocols. The Startech case takes over this role from the hard drive side and offers a transfer rate of almost 200 Mbit/s using a normal 7200 rpm hard drive in the case. My previous USB 3.0 hard drive…

Pros
  • Delivery was very fast
Cons
  • There are other interesting options.
